De Voorkamer is starting a new artist in residency project with Omid Kheirabadi.

From October 2026, Omid will be coming to De Voorkamer to build a performance group.

"You don't need any experience with theatre. Curiosity is enough. "

Omid is an Iranian performance artist who works between theatre, movement, and storytelling. He calls these meetings performance sessions: something between a workshop, a get-together, and a rehearsal for a performance that doesn't exist yet. He doesn't bring a script. What we make comes from whoever is in the room.

We meet every Sunday to move, play, and make things. It's a way of getting to know each other that doesn't rely only on talking. The sessions make room for listening and for saying things out loud, and for the moment when someone says a line or moves in a way they didn't plan. That is when everyone in the room becomes a performer. You don't need any experience with theatre. Curiosity is enough.

On Sunday, 4 October, we will hold an introductory day. Come meet Omid, try things out, and see how it feels. If you like this way of working, the weekly sessions start on 1 November. On the last day, we share something from our process with everyone who wants to come.

Schedule

Intro day: 4 Oct 2026, 10:00 to 14:00.

Weekly sessions: 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Nov and 6, 13, 20 Dec 2026, 10:00 to 17:00

Last session before the sharing: 10 Jan 2027, 10:00 to 17:00

Public sharing: 17 Jan 2027

About Omid

Omid Kheirabadi grew up in Tehran and has lived in Rotterdam for six years. He is an artist working with performance, film, and the spaces we live in. His first real theatre experience came during his military service, when he made a piece together with his fellow soldiers. He never studied theatre or writing; he just learned by doing. Now he makes theatre pieces and performances where the line between performer and audience breaks, and everyone in the room is welcome to join and help build the stories. He has worked this way with groups in Rotterdam, The Hague, Maastricht, Istanbul, and Belfast, and shown work at festivals in Delft and Utrecht.

Do you like to sing? Write a story? Direct a scene? Play an instrument? Film a funny dialogue? Then we would love to hear from you. Answer the questions below so we get a sense of what you'd like to do in these months.
The sessions run from November to January, including full Sundays. Are there dates you already know you'll miss? We prefer if you can be present in all of them; if not, most of them!
