About the community
De Voorkamer is shaped by the people who walk in, stay, return, host, cook, translate, perform, listen and build together.
why we exist
Where cultures meet
De Voorkamer is an open community space in Utrecht. It exists because people need places where they can belong without having to fit into one narrow idea of culture, language or identity.
The community grows through everyday encounters: sharing food, practicing language, making music, telling stories, asking questions and trying something new together.
values
What holds the community together
Hospitality
We welcome people with attention. A warm first encounter can make the difference between visiting once and feeling at home.
Reciprocity
Everyone has something to bring and something to receive: a language, a dish, a skill, a question, a story or time.
Experiment
New ideas are allowed to start small. We learn by doing, listening and adjusting together.
Care
Community is not just a programme. It is how people treat each other before, during and after activities.
